Valencia v Newcastle: TV channel and kick-off time

Newcastle United's new era under Matthias Jaissle gets under way tonight in a pre-season friendly against Valencia at the Estadio de Mestalla.

Kick-off and how to watch

The match kicks off at 8pm BST. It will not be shown on any traditional sports channel, but supporters can watch it live on newcastleunited.com and on the official Newcastle app.

Jaissle takes over

Jaissle has taken over from Eddie Howe, who left St James' Park last month. Howe brought silverware back to the north east, but this summer matters came to a head, with both parties agreeing to part ways. That may have been down to the club's best players being allowed to leave Tyneside, with Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali all departing this off season.

What the new boss says

Jaissle said: "When Newcastle United come your way you take notice. The ambition of the club, the vision for the future and the opportunity ahead made this an incredibly compelling place to be. I am incredibly excited about the future. I fully and unreservedly believe in this project, the ambition and the direction the club is taking. There is a clear vision, strong leadership and an exceptional platform to build on."

Sporting director Ross Wilson added: "Matthias's leadership style and football philosophy are strongly aligned with our sporting vision. His teams play high-energy football and we could feel his passion during all our discussions throughout the recruitment process."
