Manchester United could be back in the market this week as the new Premier League season approaches, with as many as seven deals potentially on the cards.
So far this summer, Michael Carrick has added three senior signings to his squad. Andrey Santos was brought in from Chelsea for £50m, Karl Darlow signed after his Leeds United contract expired, and Youri Tielemans was secured after United triggered his £35m release clause at Aston Villa.
However, further business is expected before the campaign resumes, with both incomings and outgoings likely at Old Trafford.
Lewis-Skelly chase intensifies
United have made no secret of their desire to sign a left-back this summer, and they have held an interest in Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly for some time. According to The Independent, United are now investigating whether a deal could be possible.
Lewis-Skelly saw limited playing time last season, and speculation emerged that United could try to lure him away from the Emirates before he found a place in midfield. Yet if Arsenal can complete a move for Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes this week, the midfield would become even more congested, leaving the 19-year-old again struggling for minutes.
For Arsenal, any sale would represent pure profit under Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. The deal would be difficult to negotiate, but the stars could align.
Kone and Rashford swap on the table
United's midfield has already undergone a revamp with the arrivals of Tielemans and Santos, but the club still want to add one more player in that position. Roma's Manu Kone, who impressed for France at the World Cup, is a reported target, and Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Marcus Rashford could head in the opposite direction to help a deal get done.
Rashford spent last season on loan with Barcelona, who opted not to trigger a £26m buy option, leaving his future unclear. He could remain at United, but neither the club nor the player wishes for that. Roma need a winger but are currently restricted by FFP, so a swap deal could benefit both parties, with Kone valued at £51m.
Four youngsters deemed surplus
Last week, it was reported that four United youngsters had been deemed surplus to requirements. One of those is Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek, who has been involved in pre-season. It is understood there is a lot of interest in the 22-year-old, and he is likely to leave on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan at Bristol City.
Another potential outgoer is Harry Amass. The left-back has been featuring for Carrick in pre-season and has performed admirably when called up in place of Luke Shaw. He has received interest from the Championship and is reportedly valued at around £6m. Amass' camp are considering options ahead of the new campaign, with both Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui ahead of him in the pecking order.
Midfielder Dan Gore has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons and spent last term on loan with Rotherham United, where he played in the middle of the park. He has been told his best chance of playing this campaign is with the Under-21s and could be sold if the right offer comes in, with Middlesbrough rumoured as suitors.
Toby Collyer, another academy graduate, spent last season on loan with Hull City and, despite showing glimpses, could also leave in the summer window. It is understood that if the right offer arrives for Collyer, he will be sold permanently, as he wants senior football and has been tipped by coaches to become an established Premier League player.
