Tyrique George has set his sights on European football in his first full season at Everton after scoring his first goal for the club in a 3-1 friendly win over Newcastle United at Murrayfield.
Goal was perfect medicine
The £18million summer signing from Chelsea, who initially joined on loan in the winter window, was battling illness but still produced a spectacular strike. Despite losing his voice, a hoarse George said finding the net was the perfect medicine.
“I’m just a bit sick. I’m really enjoying it, obviously to play for Everton is great,” he said.
Manager's advice
George credited manager David Moyes for encouraging him to express himself on the pitch. “From the first time I came in the manager just told me to be expressive, to be myself. That’s kind of what I’m showing when I’m given my opportunities, showing what I can do.”
The winger also praised the team's spirit, saying: “It’s a great squad, a great bunch of lads. We gel really well and we want to carry it on into the season.”
European ambition
George made clear the club's ambition for the upcoming campaign. “I definitely see positivity. Obviously, we want to get Europe – that’s the aim. That was the aim last season and hopefully we can do it this season.”
