Tottenham have been given a 29.39 percent chance of being relegated from the Premier League this season, according to Opta, following their home defeat to Aston Villa.
Spurs now sit bottom of the table with two points from a possible 15, having spent more than £300million on new players during the summer transfer window to fund Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuild.
Last season, Tottenham only secured their top-flight status on the final day with a 1-0 win over Everton.
Opta’s relegation predictions
Opta has predicted a final position of 18th for Tottenham, with newly-promoted Coventry given a 43.82 percent chance of relegation after their 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest moved them above Spurs.
Fulham, who sit above Tottenham on goal difference, have been handed a 42.40 percent chance of dropping into the Championship.
Upcoming fixtures and player reaction
Tottenham’s first game after the international break is away to Manchester United on October 10, followed by matches against Coventry, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Leeds before the November break.
Andy Robertson remains optimistic about Spurs’ chances of staying up but acknowledged the psychological impact of last season’s struggles.
“You just see certain moments, like the Liverpool game, we played so well there in moments, and then you get a goal against you, and it's like [heads down],” he said.
“And then we go back to 2-1, and all of a sudden it's chests out, and everyone's wanting the ball, and it's like, we need that all the time even if you go 1-0 down, or it's 0-0 late on.
“When we played Everton, we dominated pretty much the whole game, but we started getting panicked near the end, and we started rushing things.”
