The set of clubs used by Tiger Woods to complete the iconic 'Tiger Slam' has been sold at auction for more than £4.2 million, two decades after his historic achievement. The clubs, which Woods used to win four consecutive major titles between 2000 and 2001, fetched $5,156,162.40 at Golden Age Auctions.
Woods used the same Titleist 681-T irons and wedges for his victories at the 2000 US Open, Open Championship, PGA Championship, and the 2001 Masters. He switched to a new set seven weeks after winning his second green jacket. The clubs had a starting bid of $25,000 on March 23, with bidding closing on Saturday night.
This is the first time the clubs have been sold since 2010, when private equity investor Todd Brock paid just $57,242 for the set. The auction house verified the clubs' authenticity through affidavits from former Titleist executives Rick Nelson and Steve Mata, as well as a polygraph test and a 2000 Golfweek article detailing the club specs.
The sale price far exceeds the previous record for golf memorabilia, Horton Smith's green jacket from the 1934 Masters, which sold for $682,000 in 2013. However, it remains below the most expensive sports memorabilia ever sold: Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' shirt, which fetched $8,958,124 in May 2022.
