Tielemans: Man United don't want disruption amid Carrick uncertainty

Youri Tielemans has said the Manchester United squad "don't want a big change that is going to disrupt things more than they are" amid continued uncertainty over head coach Michael Carrick's future.

Carrick appeared set to be dismissed earlier this week following heavy defeats to Como and Bournemouth. United's hierarchy held crisis talks on Monday, and on Tuesday it emerged that Carrick had been given an opportunity to turn the club's form around.

How long he will be given to prove he can lift United out of their current difficulties remains unclear, but Tielemans is adamant the squad is behind Carrick and does not want further upheaval in what has been a chaotic season.

Tielemans backs Carrick after summer move

"I came here partly because of him, because he wanted me here," Tielemans told TNT Sports. "He wanted me to help the team out. So I'm very happy for him to stay, and the whole group, we don't want a sudden change.

"We don't want a big change that is going to disrupt things more than they are. We just need stability, we need to keep working hard, and it's going to turn at some point."

Tielemans was brought to Old Trafford by Carrick in the summer transfer window after United activated the £35m release clause in his Aston Villa contract.

Praise for Carrick's system

Despite United's poor start to the season, Tielemans was full of praise for Carrick and said the squad felt "comfortable" playing in the head coach's system.

"Since I've come in, he's always done his work," the Belgium international added. "He's tried to put a system in place that we all feel comfortable in. I joined this summer because he convinced me to come over and help the team out.

"I can only speak positively about him, and everyone in the changing room would do the same. We all just need to stick together and turn this situation around."

Fernandes comments and squad unity

Bruno Fernandes made headlines last week when he criticised United's tactics following the 4-1 defeat to Como. Tielemans declined to comment on Fernandes' remarks, though he said the captain's post-match interview showed how much he cares.

"Everyone is like they are. It's just a case of trying to do that in the right tone, the right moment," he said. "There has been a lot of talk about it, obviously, so I'm not going to go into this much further. But it shows that everyone cares. We all want to turn these things around.

"We want to win games. We're all winners, and when frustration builds up, you might have different words and different opinions, which is totally normal. As long as it stays in the group, that's the best part."
