British skateboarding prodigy Sky Brown has won her second consecutive world championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but used the moment to call for peace amid global conflicts.
The 17-year-old dominated the women's park event at the Skateboarding World Championships on Sunday, securing victory with a score of 88.16 across her first two runs before adverse weather curtailed the final. Japan's Mizuho Hasegawa took silver with 84.36, while American Minna Stess claimed bronze with 83.90.
Speaking after the win, Brown said: 'To win, to be a world champion on International Women’s Day means a lot but there’s bigger things going on. I just pray for peace for the world.' She expressed slight disappointment over the truncated final, adding: 'I had to put a lot down to get here, but I’m definitely bummed how we couldn’t fully do a final.'
Brown, who won Olympic bronze for Team GB at the Tokyo 2021 Games aged 13 and again in Paris 2024 despite shoulder pain, is Britain's youngest-ever Olympic medallist. She will turn 20 ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and appears well-placed to add to her medal tally.
