Alan Shearer has sent a message of appreciation to Bruno Guimaraes following the midfielder's departure from Newcastle United. It was confirmed on Saturday that the Brazilian has left St James' Park to complete a permanent switch to Arsenal.

Guimaraes' future at Newcastle has been the subject of speculation for some time, and now the 28-year-old has seen his career on Tyneside come to an end after five seasons. Chronicle Live exclusively reported that Newcastle had reached an agreement on a £75million deal for Guimaraes that will see the 28-year-old complete a permanent move to Arsenal.
Shearer's tribute
With Guimaraes' exit now confirmed, Newcastle legend Shearer has now sent a message to the club's now-former captain. "Thanks for everything, Skipper," Shearer wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post from Shearer was in response to Guimaraes' video on social media, where he offered his appreciation to the club and its fans.

Speaking after his departure from Newcastle, Guimaraes said: "This is one of the toughest decisions of my life. When I arrived, the club was in a challenging position and I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together."

Newcastle's next steps
Newcastle now face the task of potentially replacing Guimaraes before the transfer window closes on September 1, with just two weeks remaining before the new Premier League campaign gets underway. United have now seen three key members of their squad leave the club this summer, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali joining Guimaraes in heading for the exit door.
