Premier League icon Alan Shearer has urged Liverpool to make two major signings this summer if they hope to challenge Manchester City for the title next season. The former Newcastle striker believes Jurgen Klopp's side needs reinforcements to close the gap on Pep Guardiola's dominant squad.
Shearer's Transfer Advice for Liverpool
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer highlighted the areas where Liverpool must strengthen. "They need a top-class centre-back and a world-class defensive midfielder," he stated. "If they get those two signings right, they can push City all the way."
Defensive Reinforcements Needed
Shearer pointed out that while Liverpool's attack is formidable, their defence has been vulnerable at times. "Virgil van Dijk needs a reliable partner," he said. "And they haven't properly replaced Fabinho in that holding role."
Midfield Stability Key
The pundit also emphasised the importance of a strong defensive midfielder. "Rodri is the difference-maker for City," Shearer noted. "Liverpool need someone who can dominate games like that."
