Alan Shearer has revealed why he believes Bruno Guimaraes is leaving Newcastle United for Arsenal, citing Eddie Howe's departure as the key factor.
Shearer's verdict on the transfer
The Brazilian is set to join the Gunners in a £75million deal, becoming the fourth key figure to exit St James' Park this summer. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already moved on, but Shearer thinks Howe's resignation as head coach was the big catalyst in Guimaraes' decision.
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said: "There was a lot of talk anyway before Eddie had left, but it was almost once Eddie had left, Bruno was then done. He had the perfect excuse to say that that's me out anyway. Now whether he would have, my guess is he would have gone anyway. But once Eddie had left, then the writing was on the wall."
