Matildas captain Sam Kerr and US international Kristie Mewis have married in a New Year’s Eve ceremony in Perth. The couple, who welcomed son Jagger earlier this year, exchanged vows in front of 120 guests at a private home.
Mewis revealed details of the wedding on the podcast The Women’s Game, hosted by her sister Sam. She confirmed the couple wrote their own vows and shifted the ceremony later in the day to celebrate New Year’s Eve with attendees.
The 34-year-old West Ham midfielder shared a sneak peek of her wedding outfit on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption “Tomorrow 🥹❤️”. The couple have been engaged for two-and-a-half years and began dating in 2020.
Mewis said she knew Kerr was “the one” from their first meeting, describing it as “nothing that either of us had ever felt before”. The couple announced their son Jagger’s birth in May and confirmed their relationship in August 2021.
Due to Kerr’s playing schedule, the couple will not take an immediate honeymoon but are considering attending the men’s World Cup. Mewis acknowledged this was “not very honeymoonish”.
