Mohamed Salah is set to join Turkish side Trabzonspor and will pen a two-year deal.
Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season following a trophy-laden nine years at Anfield, scoring 257 goals in 442 games for the Reds and cementing his place in club history. He brought the curtain down on nine incredible years at the club on the final day of last season in emotional scenes.
Move to Turkey Prioritised
Saudi Arabia has long been seen as an option for Salah's next move, but he has instead prioritised a switch to Turkey.
It originally looked as if Besiktas would win the race for his signature but they came out and declared that they wouldn't bend their wage structure to sign Salah and were unhappy with some of his demands.
Trabzonspor Announcement
Now Trabzonspor have announced that Salah is due in Turkey today to complete a move, declaring: “Professional footballer Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Atatürk Airport General Aviation Terminal at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5.
“The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours. The time and other details regarding the welcome program in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club’s official communication channels during the day.”
Club Context
Trabzonspor finished third last season, eight points off top spot, and have secured themselves a spot in next season's Europa League. They last won the Turkish title in 2022.
