Andy Robertson: 100th cap special as Scotland beat North Macedonia
Robertson's 100th cap: Scotland win in Skopje

Andy Robertson marked his 100th Scotland cap with a 2-0 Nations League victory over North Macedonia in Skopje, describing the occasion as "unbelievable" and "really special".

The Scotland captain was awarded a second-half penalty after a VAR check for handball, but he handed the ball to John McGinn, who converted from 12 yards to seal the win. Robertson said he told McGinn: "You just focus on this penalty!"

Captain's selfless act

Robertson admitted he was relieved not to take the spot-kick himself, saying: "The only time I didn't like it was when they sang my name at the penalty. I thought: 'I'm not going anywhere near that'! I was probably telling them to be quiet at that point."

He added: "If we were 3-0 up, it might have been a different story. No, I was just glad he took it and secured a win."

Emotional night in Skopje

The travelling support gave Robertson a standing ovation at the end of the match, and he said: "The ovation at the end, the way the fans cheered me, was something I will never forget. It was unbelievable, a really special feeling. The whole day was special."

Robertson joined Kenny Dalglish in the 100-cap club and moved to within two of equalling Dalglish's record tally. He said his phone was "red-hot" with well wishes from ex-team-mates, managers and players he is close to.

McGinn's milestone

McGinn overtook Jim Leighton to become Scotland's third all-time top cap holder on 92, and Robertson praised his friend: "What John has done for this country has been unbelievable. For him to go up to third (in cap list) is just incredible."

Robertson added: "He is now racing towards 100 as well. He will get every special accolade that he deserves when that day comes. And I will be stood at the front of the line when it happens."
