Leeds United moved a step closer to Premier League safety with a hard-fought draw at Crystal Palace, a result manager Daniel Farke described as 'priceless'. The visitors had been the better side in the first half but saw Gabriel Gudmundsson sent off early in the second period after referee Thomas Bramall initially forgot the Sweden defender had already been booked.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a first-half penalty for Leeds after Will Hughes handled in the area, dragging his effort wide. The drama continued when Gudmundsson took out Ismaila Sarr and received a second yellow card, with Bramall needing to be reminded by the Palace forward before brandishing the red.
Despite being a man down for over 40 minutes, Leeds defended resolutely and limited Palace to few clear chances. Brennan Johnson was fortunate to avoid a red card himself and was marginally offside in the build-up to Jefferson Lerma's disallowed goal.
'It was another day when I trust these players with my life,' Farke said. 'Within two minutes, it seems like the whole world is against you. But it was another proof why when this club is united and you show this mentality, then we can overcome all adversity.'
Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted his side's lack of cutting edge is a concern. 'We are not the biggest goalscoring machine in the Premier League. It is an issue, we know,' he said. 'But to me it feels we are a little bit nervous. We want to score because we are one player up and we are taking bad decisions and losing our structure.'
The point leaves Leeds three points above the relegation zone with five games remaining, while Palace remain in mid-table after a second consecutive home stalemate.
