Manchester United are growing increasingly concerned that Marcus Rashford's future may remain unresolved until after the World Cup, potentially disrupting the club's summer transfer plans and new manager Michael Carrick's preparations for next season.
The 28-year-old forward is in limbo after talks with Barcelona broke down. The Spanish club had agreed to make his loan permanent for £24 million, but have since sought to renegotiate the terms after spending £70 million on Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. United have rejected proposals for another loan, a reduced fee, or deferred payments, and are now considering selling Rashford to another club.
Rashford, who is contracted to United until 2028 on £325,000-a-week, has no desire to return to the club. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to remove his wages from the books. However, United are reluctant to sell to Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, or Tottenham, all of whom are monitoring the situation. Rashford himself is not interested in joining Newcastle or Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Rashford has been training alone at MLS side Inter Miami ahead of joining England's World Cup squad in Florida. He enjoyed a productive season at Barcelona with 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances, and manager Hansi Flick is keen to retain him, though Gordon's arrival has complicated matters.
