McInnes under pressure
Andy Newport believes McInnes must first address the needless errors costing the team, then focus on building confidence and partnerships. He also suggests fresh attacking additions would help.
Scott Burns is less forgiving, stating McInnes needs to prove he is up to the job at this new level. "He has made an uninspiring start. The jury is out," Burns said, adding that while strengthening is needed, McInnes must also get more from his current squad.
Scott McDermott offers a more patient view, saying McInnes knows the problems and how to fix them. He calls for key signings, improved performances from existing players, and time. "He'll get it right but this is a huge week for Rangers who need two wins over Hibs and Jagiellonia," McDermott added.
Celtic's Champions League readiness
On Celtic's Champions League qualifier, Newport suggests they need fresh midfield creativity and pace on the flanks. He also notes the defence, though unchanged, may need reliable backups given last season's injury issues.
Burns thinks Celtic have enough to beat LASK but warns against selling key players like Alastair Johnston or Arne Engels before the game. "It would be too much of a risk," he said.
McDermott is less confident, citing shortages in midfield, wide areas, and left-back cover. "They've got a decent starting 11 on paper but not much behind that," he said, especially with player futures uncertain.
Scottish clubs in Europe
Regarding Hibs and Motherwell's European progress, Newport praises Motherwell's result in Finland but worries about Hibs' wobble against Skendjia ahead of their trip to Macedonia.
Burns believes Motherwell should beat HJK at home, while Hibs might be touch and go but could squeeze through.
McDermott fears for Hibs given their away performance in the last round against the Kosovans, saying an early goal for the opposition could spell trouble. However, he backs Motherwell to progress against Helsinki with the Fir Park crowd behind them.
Hearts' new manager dilemma
On Hearts' Wouter Vrancken, Newport suggests he should look back at what made them successful last year under Derek McInnes, who built a solid spine that won battles first.
Burns says Vrancken hasn't had much luck and should be judged after the second Benfica game. "I think he will do well, but there will be bumps in the short-term," he said.
McDermott recommends a pragmatic approach after the adventurous 4-3-3 backfired against Benfica. He needs time, but a win this weekend would ease the pressure.
