Pitch invasion chaos as wheelie bin thrown in Dutch Cup clash

Utrecht fans stormed the pitch and threw a wheelie bin at home supporters after their Dutch Cup victory over Kozakken Boys, forcing stewards to scramble to separate the rival groups.

The Eredivisie side had won 1-0, and their supporters took the opportunity to taunt the lower-league opposition. Utrecht fans then made their way to the home end, where the two sets of supporters were separated by the advertising board as projectiles, including a wheelie bin that appeared to come from the home end, were launched. Footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media.

Managers Condemn the Scenes

Dutch football journalist Jeroen Kapteijns, who originally shared the footage, posted on X: "Things get pretty out of hand after the final whistle in Werkendam, with black-jacketed folks going at each other."

He added: "Such a shame for cup football to have this kind of brainless idiots. The black jackets on the pitch come from the FC Utrecht section and attack the supporters of the home team."

Reactions from Both Sides

Kozakken Boys manager Dennis de Nooijer appeared before the media once the scenes had calmed down, saying: "This is such a shame, because everything was well organized."

He continued: "People work for weeks to organize everything properly. I think everyone had a great evening, and then it is just a pity that these kinds of things still happen at the end of the evening."

Utrecht's manager, Anthony Correia, added: "I didn't see it myself, but I do know that supporting a team shouldn't have anything to do with fighting. So if there was fighting, you don't want that. That doesn't belong on the football pitch and will likely have repercussions."
