Will Osula scored a sensational 90th-minute winner as 10-man Newcastle United defeated Manchester United 2-1 at St James' Park, ending Michael Carrick's unbeaten start as Red Devils boss. The Denmark Under-21 striker, introduced as a substitute, produced a moment of magic to secure a dramatic victory for Eddie Howe's side.
Newcastle were reduced to 10 men when Jacob Ramsey received a second yellow card for simulation in first-half stoppage time, a decision Howe described as 'incredibly harsh'. Despite the setback, Anthony Gordon put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after being nudged by Bruno Fernandes. However, Manchester United equalised deep into added time when Fernandes' free-kick was glanced home by Casemiro.
After the break, Newcastle adopted a more direct approach, while Fernandes orchestrated much of United's attacking play. Aaron Ramsdale, preferred to Nick Pope in goal, made several fine saves to keep the scores level. With the game heading for a draw, Osula collected a long ball in his own half, skilfully kept it in play, cut inside Tyrell Malacia, and curled a superb shot beyond Senne Lammens.
Howe praised his team's resilience, saying: 'We showed we're competitive against any team. With both 11 and 10 men we deserved to win.' Carrick admitted: 'Newcastle deserved to win. The quality wasn't good enough.' The result leaves United third in the Premier League, 12 points clear of Newcastle in 12th.
