André Onana Set for Trabzonspor Loan After Manchester United Medical

André Onana is expected to complete a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor this week, following a medical scheduled for Thursday. The Manchester United goalkeeper has agreed to join the Turkish club, with the deal set to be confirmed before Turkey's transfer window closes on Friday.

Onana initially believed he would remain at United, but the signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on Premier League deadline day gave manager Ruben Amorim four keepers, including Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton. The 29-year-old has lost his starting spot to Bayindir this season, having started only the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby, where he was at fault for both goals in the 2-2 draw.

It is understood Onana will earn more at Trabzonspor, benefiting from a signing-on fee and a flat 20% tax rate in the Super Lig. The Cameroon international, who has charity commitments via his André Onana Foundation, is keen to maximise his earnings. With United not in the Champions League, squad members miss out on a 25% salary increase tied to that competition.

Onana's current United deal, worth about £100,000 a week, runs until June 2028. He was told in the summer he would stay, but discussions over a new contract suggested it may not be forthcoming. Club sources noted that having four keepers was manageable, especially with Onana expected to be unavailable for up to six weeks during the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on 21 December.
