Christian Norgaard will be Everton's 'signing of the year' and is a better footballer than Idrissa Gueye, according to Blues FA Cup-winning hero Anders Limpar.
Everton announced the signing of Norgaard from Arsenal on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee, understood to be £7 million, at 10pm on Wednesday. The former Denmark international becomes their fourth acquisition of the summer after Merlin Rohl, Tyrique George, and Hayden Hackney.
Limpar's Verdict
The 32-year-old declared that joining the Blues was 'a big, big honour for me'. Anders Limpar, who also swapped Arsenal for Everton in 1994 before being part of the side that defeated Manchester United at Wembley the following year, reckons his fellow Scandinavian could be a key signing for David Moyes.
Speaking courtesy of SveaCasino, Limpar, a boyhood Blue who was capped 58 times for Sweden, scoring six international goals, and was dubbed a football genius and the most talented player he ever worked with by Joe Royle, told the ECHO: 'Christian Norgaard is going to bring exactly what Idrissa Gueye did for Everton.'
A Better Player Than Gueye
'His work rate is unbelievable, and I even think Norgaard is a better football player than Gueye. I think he will be the signing of the year for Everton because he is exactly what the team has been missing.'
'We already have Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall so to bring Norgaard into the engine room, I mean wow! Look out for Everton because that's a midfield, and we already have the rest, a good solid team and we have the manager, the crowd and the new stadium.'
The Missing Link
'Norgaard might be the missing link, the final piece of the jigsaw as it were. You saw how good he was at Brentford. He couldn't get a sniff at Arsenal but Martin Zubimendi was playing out of this world, and he wasn't going to get into the team ahead of Declan Rice or Martin Odegaard so he couldn't get a game.'
'If Everton can get Jack Grealish back too after signing Norgaard we're going to be up there competing for the European places for sure.'
Norgaard could make his first appearance in a Royal Blue shirt in Wednesday's friendly against Premier League rivals Newcastle United at Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Wednesday (5.15pm kick-off).
