Nine players could miss Liverpool vs Man City clash

Up to nine players could miss the Premier League meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, October 11, after three new injury blows emerged during the international break.

The 4.30pm showdown has taken on extra significance as it will be City's first match since being found guilty of the majority of the 115 Premier League charges levelled at them. The club maintain their innocence and have appealed against the verdict.

Liverpool's growing injury list

Alexander Isak left the Sweden squad with a thigh problem after scoring in a Nations League win at home to Romania. The issue is not said to be serious, but Liverpool supporters are waiting on news of the assessments Isak has been undergoing back at the AXA Training Centre.

Cody Gakpo also returned to Kirkby earlier than expected after sustaining an ankle injury while playing for the Netherlands. He was forced off in the first half of the win over Serbia.

Head coach Andoni Iraola will be desperate for one or both to be fit to face City, given Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined, although the striker is closing in on a return to full training before the year is out.

Long-term absentees and City concerns

Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni will also play no part next Sunday. Bradley will have to wait a little longer to be back among the main group on the grass at the club's training base, while Leoni is now getting increasingly close to doing just that. The latest on Federico Chiesa, who has yet to kick a ball this season, remains to be seen.

For City, Phil Foden will definitely not face the Reds after being sent off for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes during the 1-0 derby win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. There are also doubts over Antoine Semenyo and Nico O'Reilly after they withdrew from the Ghana and England squads respectively.
