Newcastle's thorough process to replace Howe after July decision

Newcastle United conducted a "thorough process" to replace Eddie Howe after it became clear that the former AFC Bournemouth boss could not commit his future at St James' Park.

Howe was given every chance to stick with the Magpies but believed he had taken them as far as he could. Once Howe had communicated that to club chiefs early in pre-season, a search to replace him unfolded.

Jaissle appointment

After appointing Matthias Jaissle, CEO David Hopkinson revealed: "Matthias is one of the most exciting and highly regarded young coaches in football and I’m thrilled to welcome him to Newcastle United.
