Following Eddie Howe's departure, Matthias Jaissle has been appointed as the new head coach. However, he inherits a squad in flux. Bruno Guimaraes has been given permission to travel for a medical with Arsenal after the clubs agreed a £75 million fee. Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have already left for Tottenham and Barcelona, respectively. Jacob Murphy is also linked with a move to Everton as he enters the final year of his contract.
Injury Concerns
Injuries have compounded the issues. Tino Livramento underwent calf surgery, and Howe previously indicated his absence would be long-term, potentially missing the start of the season. Will Osula, Sven Botman, Lewis Miley, and Joelinton have returned to training after minor issues.

The lack of experience at left-back, with Alex Murphy having made only eight appearances, and the absence of creativity in midfield could lead to a difficult start to the 2026/27 season.
