Newcastle United chief executive David Hopkinson has indicated that an announcement on a new training ground is imminent, while the club's stadium decision could extend into 2027.
Training ground update
Speaking from La Manga, Hopkinson told Chronicle Live: "Training ground, we are moving quite quickly on. I had a conversation about it today, and that conversation isn't quite finished yet. I'm optimistic we're going to make a training ground announcement very soon."
The club has already purchased land near Leazes Terrace to provide options for the future training facility.
Stadium decision delayed
An update on the stadium was previously suggested by chief operating officer Brad Miller in 2025 after a feasibility report, but no decision has been made on whether to stay at St James' Park or move.
When asked for an update, Hopkinson said: "No. There's a pregnant pause in that answer."
Balancing transparency and transaction
Hopkinson explained the challenge of balancing transparency with ongoing negotiations: "One of the themes I've been wrestling with the last while - couple of weeks, a month - is how do we balance transparency and transaction?"
He added: "Being fully transparent about what we wanted to do with Leazes Terrace would have been diametrically opposed to being able to actually conclude that deal. We're going to buy some land for our future training ground and getting really granular on what we pay and where it is wouldn't be helpful."
"We want to be transparent but that doesn't mean we can invite everyone into every part of the strategy," he concluded.
