Newcastle United are set to announce Matthias Jaissle as their new manager after the German coach agreed a deal to replace Eddie Howe. Jaissle has already joined the Magpies at their training camp in La Manga, with Newcastle paying compensation to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli for his services.
Bruno Guimaraes future
One of Jaissle's first tasks will be to address the situation of captain Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian was due to fly into Spain from Brazil last night to meet up with the squad and is due to train on Monday, but there has been no official word on his arrival so far. Arsenal remain interested in the midfielder, with talk of a £75 million deal.
Chronicle Live understands that Guimaraes has told Newcastle he wishes to move to Arsenal if an acceptable offer is made. However, no formal offer has been submitted and there have been no club-to-club negotiations. Reports suggesting the player could hand in a transfer request or go on strike have not been corroborated.
Transfer plans
Newcastle are also set to make Czech goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek their fifth summer signing. The club are pursuing another full-back and potentially a midfield replacement for Guimaraes. Speculation continues over the futures of Lewis Hall and Nick Pope.
