Cole highlighted Real Madrid's interest in the Portuguese as proof of his enduring quality, telling The Sun: 'Everyone's thinking he's finished, but there's a reason Real Madrid are looking at him.'
Cole envisions Mourinho leading a long-term rebuild at Stamford Bridge. 'Give him a long contract, and tell the players and the fans just to take the transition,' he said. 'I'm pretty sure, in three years, Chelsea will be in a healthier position than they are now.'
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly considering Mourinho as a replacement for Alvaro Arbeloa this summer. The 61-year-old has not won a league title since leaving Chelsea in 2016, but his commanding presence is seen as a potential solution to Chelsea's recent instability.
