Spain defender Mapi León has described London City Lionesses as a club 'created for women', calling it 'beautiful and exciting' after completing her move to the Women's Championship side.
León's first words as a Lioness
The 31-year-old, who won the World Cup with Spain in 2023, joined the club on a free transfer from Barcelona, where she spent eight years and won multiple trophies, including two Champions League titles.
Speaking to the club's media, León said: "It is a club created for women. It is beautiful and exciting to be part of this project."
A new chapter in London
London City Lionesses, who play in the second tier of English women's football, have been backed by US billionaire Michele Kang since 2023. The club has ambitions to reach the Women's Super League and has made a series of high-profile signings this summer.
León is expected to make her debut for the club in their opening league fixture against Durham on Sunday.
