Michael Carrick has been backed by a senior figure at Manchester United to take the manager's job on a permanent basis, following an impressive start to his second interim spell in charge. The former United midfielder has overseen six matches without defeat, including a victory over Manchester City, since replacing Ruben Amorim.
Former United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, now at West Ham, has also thrown his support behind Carrick. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Wan-Bissaka said: 'He's someone you can trust. He will also trust you back if you buy into him and what he's looking to do. I think he should be given the full-time role. I think he deserves it.'
According to The Telegraph, an unnamed senior figure at Old Trafford noted a clear improvement under Carrick compared to Amorim's tenure. The source stated: 'There's a stark difference – you see it.' Another club insider added: 'It's just ironic to think that the potential solution to so many long-term issues has been a stalking horse 100 yards or so from Ruben Amorim's office.'
Carrick's side have only dropped points once in his six matches, with a late 1-1 draw against West Ham. United face Crystal Palace at home on Sunday as they continue their push for a top-four finish. Whether Carrick will remain beyond the season remains uncertain, with several high-profile names linked to the role.
