Manchester United are facing a race against time to bolster their midfield, with internal disagreements and external competition threatening their transfer plans. The club has less than a month to secure further signings before the new season kicks off.
Newcastle ready offer for Nmecha
According to Sky Sports Germany, Newcastle United are preparing an offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha after initiating discussions with the player's representatives. The 25-year-old Germany international is reportedly valued at €100 million (£85.8 million) by Dortmund.
United's interest in Nmecha is said to have cooled due to the hefty price tag. Newcastle view Nmecha as a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is close to completing a £75 million move to Arsenal.
Internal disagreement over Kone
Off the pitch, a disagreement between key figures at Old Trafford could be stalling progress. Director of recruitment Christopher Vivell has urged the club to sign AS Roma's Manu Kone, but sporting director Jason Wilcox is not convinced, according to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs.
Jacobs, speaking on the United Stand, claimed that Wilcox and manager Michael Carrick both prefer signings with Premier League experience, similar to the recent arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.
United have already secured Tielemans from Aston Villa and Santos from Chelsea last month, along with youth signings Tynan Thompson and Cristian Orozco. However, with Casemiro departed and Manuel Ugarte injured for most of the season, a third midfield addition may be necessary.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Bournemouth's Alex Scott, but whether they can secure another signing before the window closes remains uncertain.
