Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign midfielder Éderson for an initial €40.5m (£35m), with the Brazilian set to become the first signing under permanent manager Michael Carrick.
The 26-year-old was identified by Carrick and director of football Jason Wilcox as a replacement for Casemiro, who left the club after his contract expired. The deal could rise to €45m (£38.8m) with add-ons, and personal terms have been agreed on a contract running until June 2030, with an option for a further 12 months.
Éderson, who turns 27 next month, primarily plays as a holding midfielder but is known for his box-to-box dynamism and defensive reading of the game. He joined Atalanta from Salernitana in January 2022 and has three Brazil caps, the last coming in March 2025.
The transfer is expected to be completed early next month, subject to a medical. Carrick is also targeting another midfielder, with options including Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouaméni, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson.
