Andre Onana Joins Trabzonspor on Loan After Man Utd Sign Belgian Keeper Lammens

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has agreed a season-long loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, with no fee or option to buy included. The 29-year-old Cameroonian departs Old Trafford after two years following his £43.8 million arrival from Inter Milan, a period marked by both flashes of quality and costly errors.

Onana's move comes after United signed Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens on deadline day for £18.2 million. The loan will be finalised once Onana returns from international duty. Despite his struggles, Onana leaves knowing he has had the backing of his teammates throughout his tenure.

Onana's errors have been frequent and damaging. Last season under Ruben Amorim, he faced heavy criticism for performances in the Europa League and a calamitous display in United's Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town. In December, he cost his side in back-to-back matches, including a poor handling of a long-range strike against Nottingham Forest and a misplaced pass that led to a goal against Viktoria Plzen.

Despite these mistakes, teammates have consistently defended Onana. Captain Bruno Fernandes said after the Plzen error: 'We have huge belief in Andre. He knows he made a mistake, he's a clever guy. We trust his qualities on the ball.' Diogo Dalot praised his calmness and confidence, while Harry Maguire noted that 'during a career, you always have spells where you have ups and downs.' Leny Yoro added: 'We're with him, of course, we support him.'

Onana himself acknowledged the difficulties, telling PA last year: 'In the beginning it was difficult. I was lucky because I have good team-mates, they were helping me. I arrived as the best goalkeeper in the world and boom, it went down. But I decided to stand up and fight.'
