Manchester United defeated Leeds at Croke Park after a penalty shootout was required to separate the two sides. Bruno Fernandes failed to convert from 12 yards but Noussair Mazraoui slotted home the decisive spot-kick.
United edge Leeds in Dublin
United opened the scoring in Dublin following a brilliant counter-attack, led by Bryan Mbeumo, whose exceptional work down the left flank culminated in a pass to Joshua Zirkzee, who finished clinically. However, Leeds drew level against the flow of the game, with Tyler Fletcher losing possession and Brenden Aaronson providing the equaliser moments later. A penalty shootout was required to decide the contest and United emerged triumphant.

Senne Lammens: Relatively quiet opening 45 minutes but produced a crucial save with his feet from Harry Wilson after the interval and demonstrated reliable handling with two long-range efforts. 6.
Diogo Dalot: Wandered into central areas during build-up phases at times, but was exposed defensively by an Okafor surge and was forced into a desperate challenge in his final action before substitution. 6.
Leny Yoro: Excellent long ball to pick out Dorgu's movement and appeared assured in possession. Dealt effectively with Calvert-Lewin in the second period and commanded the defence alongside Armer. 7.
Ayden Heaven: More incisive distribution once again and his left-footed delivery clearly an asset for this squad. Improved defensively compared to his Saturday display. 6.
Harry Amass: Conceded two early infractions before another later in the opening half. Composed enough with the ball at his feet but appears not quite prepared for this standard. 6.
Andrey Santos: Dropped deep to collect the ball from the defenders and showed glimpses of leadership qualities through his vocal presence. Appears a guaranteed starter against Hull. 6.
Tyler Fletcher: Dwelled on the ball on a few occasions and one instance proved damaging when he surrendered possession in a perilous position, leading to Leeds' goal. A stark reminder of the elevated standard required. 5.
Amad: Displayed lightning-quick footwork on several occasions and might have found the net following excellent build-up play from Zirkzee. Has delivered an impression since returning from the World Cup. 7.
Joshua Zirkzee: Finished his goal expertly, troubled Trafford with another attempt and produced some exquisite footwork to fashion an opportunity for Amad. Mixed moments of sloppiness with flashes of class. 7.
Patrick Dorgu: Delivered the pass that freed Mbeumo for the goal, though that was largely down to Mbeumo's brilliance. Otherwise subdued during his 45 minutes on the pitch. 6.
Bryan Mbeumo: Has elevated his game to new heights since switching to the striker role during pre-season. Outstanding contribution for Zirkzee's goal and looked dangerous in search of another himself. 8.
Substitutes assessed
Dan Armer: Receiving some superb chances during pre-season and appeared composed when facing a highly seasoned Premier League forward here. Absolutely solid. 8.
Toby Collyer: Cannot have much time remaining at United but was thrust into action for 45 minutes and showed composure in possession. Possesses ability but chances will be limited. 6.
Tynan Thompson: Saw little of the ball but demonstrated his eagerness to take on opponents and drive forward whenever United located him in space. 6.
Dermot Mee: Enjoyed surprise opportunities in pre-season and with Darlow still unavailable he might yet feature on the bench against Hull. Made one excellent stop and converted a penalty save. 7.
Noussair Mazraoui: Dependable enough at right-back but evidently remains second choice behind Dalot in the hierarchy. 6.
Luke Shaw: Faces no rivalry for his position and performed adequately upon his introduction. Requires careful management at present. 6.
Youri Tielemans: Delivered in-swinging corners in place of Fernandes and showcased some neat distribution. 7.
Jack Fletcher: One wayward corner from the right flank but harried opponents relentlessly. Performed reasonably as a right-winger during pre-season. 6.
Bruno Fernandes: Intriguing to witness him positioned in the six-yard box rather than handling corner duties. Struck the crossbar with a superb attempt but fluffed his penalty. 7.
Matheus Cunha: Entered as a striker, having caught the eye for Brazil at the World Cup, and appeared lively. 6.
