Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has cast a cloud of uncertainty over his team selection ahead of Thursday night's Premier League encounter with West Ham United at Old Trafford.
Amorim's Tactical Secrecy Over Injury Doubts
The Portuguese coach confirmed he is facing two late fitness concerns ahead of the crucial home fixture but pointedly refused to identify the players involved. Amorim suggested that revealing their names would give away crucial details about his intended tactical approach for the game.
"We have two doubts for the game," Amorim stated on Wednesday. "I will not tell you today because it will change the way we are going to approach [the match], so let's see if they can play tomorrow, but the rest of the squad is good."
Confirmed Absences and a Key Return
While the identity of the two doubtful players remains a mystery, Amorim did confirm some definitive team news. The Red Devils will again be without key defender Harry Maguire and striker Benjamin Sesko.
In a positive update, forward Matheus Cunha is set to return to the squad after missing the last two matches. His availability will provide a welcome boost as United seek to build on their 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace last Sunday.
Amorim's Psychological Support for Young Star
The United head coach also revealed he has held talks with young defender Leny Yoro, who was visibly upset after conceding a penalty in the win at Selhurst Park. Amorim admitted the 19-year-old Frenchman struggled to recover mentally from the error.
"I spoke with him because he thinks too much," Amorim explained. "He makes a mistake in the game and then he struggles because he's too young and he wants to do everything so well. He's growing, with games and with setbacks; it's not easy for him as a young guy."
Amorim emphasised that Yoro's frustration showed he cares deeply, but he has urged the player to manage his emotions better. He confirmed that, despite the psychological blow, Yoro is "fit and ready for the next challenge" against West Ham.
The situation leaves United fans and pundits speculating on which two players might be racing against time to be fit, with Amorim prepared to make a late change to his gameplan if necessary for the Thursday night clash.
