Man United youngster trains with first team ahead of Chelsea

Manchester United teenager Jariyah Shah has trained with the senior squad ahead of Saturday's Premier League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The 17-year-old was one of two youngsters called up by head coach Michael Carrick, with midfielder Jack Fletcher also taking part in Thursday's session at Carrington.

Mainoo closing in on return

United travel to west London aiming to ease the pressure on Carrick after losing their last two games by a three-goal margin, to Como and Bournemouth. They have not won in any competition since beating Champions League debutants Sabah on September 10.

Kobbie Mainoo is pushing to return after missing the last four matches through injury. "[In terms of] good news, Kobbie has done a little bit of training yesterday. So, he's back and around the group, so that's obviously positive," Carrick said in Thursday's pre-match press conference.

Injuries open door for youngsters

United will be without Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte against Chelsea because of longer-term injuries, while Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are doubtful. The absence of several senior players allowed Carrick to call up the young duo.

Fletcher, son of former United midfielder Darren, was on the bench against Como in the Champions League last week but is yet to make a first-team appearance this season.

Shah was born in Australia and joined United from Doncaster Rovers before signing scholarship forms in 2025. He made his U18s debut in February of that year and was a regular for Fletcher's group during the 2025-26 campaign. Though naturally a midfielder, Shah has also played regularly in defence, particularly at right-back, and scored in a 6-0 win over Wolves U18s last month.
