London City Lionesses are poised to sign Mary Earps and Barcelona defender Mapi León on free transfers, according to sources. The deals are expected to go through when their contracts expire at the end of June.
Earps, 33, has been keen on a return to the Women’s Super League after two years with Paris Saint-Germain. The former England goalkeeper, who won the WSL Golden Glove in the 2022-23 season with Manchester United and helped the club win the Women’s FA Cup in 2024, has been identified as a key summer target by London City.
León, who turns 31 this month, has been a key part of Barcelona’s dominant side in Europe, winning the Champions League four times. Her ball-playing ability is a key attribute London City admire as they aim to develop an attractive playing style. The former Atlético Madrid player has spent nine seasons with Barcelona.
The club, owned by American businesswoman Michele Kang, has been targeting A-list players to attract more fans and strengthen the team. The additions of Earps and León are expected to help London City challenge for trophies and build their fanbase.
