Liverpool have confirmed that defender Ibrahima Konate will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June. The 25-year-old French centre-back joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £36 million and made 183 appearances, scoring seven goals.
In a statement released on Sunday, Liverpool expressed their gratitude for Konate's contributions, noting his role in winning the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season, as well as FA Cup, Carabao Cup (twice) and FA Community Shield triumphs. The club said: 'Konate will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future.'
Konate also issued a personal message on Instagram, thanking teammates, coaches, staff and supporters. He wrote: 'Representing this club has been an honour. We've shared incredible moments together... I am deeply saddened that I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game.' He added: 'This isn't an easy goodbye, but it's time for a new challenge and a new chapter.'
The announcement comes just over 24 hours after Liverpool confirmed the departure of manager Arne Slot. The club are now searching for a new head coach, with former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola among those linked.
