Liverpool wrapped up their pre-season tour of the United States on Sunday evening with a 4-2 defeat to Leeds United. The match both highlighted the team's qualities and exposed areas requiring improvement.
Andoni Iraola's side took a 2-0 lead in the first half and appeared to be in total control. After the break, however, Leeds overpowered a much-changed Liverpool and handed the Basque head coach his first defeat in charge.
World Cup returnees on show
Iraola welcomed Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch back for the clash against Leeds, with all three having enjoyed extended breaks after the World Cup. Wirtz, the German, got on the scoresheet. But Liverpool's poor second-half performance underscored the need for further reinforcements this summer.
Barcola and Jones dominate transfer talk
With August beginning, transfer activity is expected to ramp up considerably. Reports indicate that Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola is a top priority for Liverpool, with the club said to be preparing a move for the £140 million-rated Frenchman.
Outgoings are also possible, with Curtis Jones a subject of interest to Inter Milan.
