Liverpool have completed the loan signing of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, with a £47m option to buy, and are closing in on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola after he agreed personal terms.
Araujo arrives on loan
The Uruguay international joins for the season, with Liverpool covering all his wages. The 27-year-old provides cover at centre-back and right-back, addressing a depleted defensive line.
Joe Gomez is expected to be out until late August, new signing Jeremy Jacquet has not played since February due to a shoulder injury, and Conor Bradley is recovering from a serious knee injury. Young defender Giovanni Leoni is also weeks away from a return.
Araujo could make his debut in the season opener at Newcastle United on August 23. He spent eight years at Barcelona, making over 200 appearances, but fell down the pecking order under Hansi Flick.
Barcola agrees terms
Bradley Barcola has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool, according to the Mirror. Fabrizio Romano reports 'direct, official conversation' between the clubs, with PSG's £145m asking price firm.
Daily talks are ongoing, and PSG's interest in Barcelona's Ferran Torres could facilitate the move. Barcola, 23, has 39 goals and 25 assists in 152 games for PSG.
Mac Allister returns
Alexis Mac Allister has returned to the AXA Training Centre after his post-World Cup break, following Argentina's 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the final. He was seen greeting team-mates, including Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, in club footage.
