Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. The Dutch right-back has signed a five-year contract at Anfield until 2030 after his £29.5million release clause was triggered by the reigning Premier League champions.
Frimpong arrives as the long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is leaving Liverpool after 21 years to join Real Madrid in a £10m deal. The England international will move early ahead of the Club World Cup.
“It went quite easy,” Frimpong told Liverpool’s official website. “Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together.”
The 24-year-old, who can also play on the wing, scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists in 190 appearances for Leverkusen. He won the Bundesliga and German Cup last season, and has 12 senior caps for the Netherlands.
Frimpong is the second planned arrival of a busy summer for Liverpool, who have also tabled an improved second offer for Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz worth up to £109.4m. Talks are ongoing with Bournemouth for left-back Milos Kerkez, while Giorgi Mamardashvili will join from Valencia for £29m.
