Leny Yoro has insisted Manchester United can win the Premier League title, saying the squad has the potential to compete at the top. His confidence comes as Michael Carrick prepares to lead the club after being appointed permanent head coach this summer.
Thirteen Years Without a Premier League Title
Manchester United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013. The legendary Scottish manager won 13 top-flight titles before retiring, and the club has since made seven permanent appointments, each falling short of replicating his trophy-laden tenure.
United have collected domestic and European honours in that period without rediscovering their league dominance:
- David Moyes won the Community Shield during his short-lived spell.
- Louis van Gaal lifted the FA Cup.
- Jose Mourinho won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.
- Erik ten Hag claimed both the League Cup and FA Cup.
- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ruben Amorim departed without silverware.
Yoro: We Have to Think Like That
Despite Amorim overseeing a 15th-place finish in 2024/25, Yoro believes the club is moving in the right direction. Asked about the chances of winning the title in the coming season, he said: "We're Man United so we have to think like that. And I know we have the potential to do it, so we have to do it. The mood is really good. We work really hard, and outside the pitch, we have a good vibe, good mood."
"So the target this season is to win every game, to be honest. For the team to be the best, for myself to do good games every time, to win trophies, and to be at the top."
Carrick Takes Charge
Michael Carrick stepped in as interim head coach in January and led United to a third-place Premier League finish, enough to earn the role permanently this summer. The 44-year-old said: "From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.
"Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here. Now it's time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again."
