Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign away to newly-promoted Hull City this afternoon. The Red Devils are looking to pick up where they left off last season, with no side picking up more points since Michael Carrick’s arrival in January.
United have strengthened over the summer, particularly in central midfield, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans potentially set to make their league debuts for the club. Hull, meanwhile, are looking to pick up their first Premier League win over United as they make their return to the English top-flight for the first time since 2017.
Confirmed team news
Manchester United’s first game of the season will kick off today at 12.30pm BST. Viewers can watch the match live on TNT Sports 1 with streaming also available through the HBO Max app.
Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko are injury doubts for United’s league opener. Mount picked up an injury in pre-season, while a shin problem prevented Sesko from playing at all in pre-season. Elsewhere, Matthijs de Ligt is also back in training after his back injury problems but appears still a way off a first-team return.
Starting XIs
Man Utd starting XI: Lammens; Mazraoui, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw; Santos, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Dorgu; Cunha. Subs: Darlow, Dalot, Martinez, Yoro, Mainoo, Lacey, Rashford, Sesko, Zirkzee.
Hull City starting XI: Tzolakis; Coyle, Ajayi, Egan, Mendy, Giles; Crooks, Slater; Belloumi, McBurnie, Stroud. Subs: Phillips, Millar, Hjerto-Dahl, McNair, Drameh, Herrington, Targett, Dowell, Gourna.
Injury concerns for Hull
Newly promoted Hull, meanwhile, have plenty of injury problems ahead of this match. Jack Butland is out after an elbow operation over the summer, joining Darko Gyabi, Eliot Matazo and Joe Gelhardt on the sidelines. Charlie Hughes, Hidemasa Morita, Matty Jacob and Oscar Zambrano also look set to miss out.
Rashford and Mainoo are both named amongst the substitutes, while Amad does not appear to have travelled with the squad. Mbeumo looks set to start on the right, with Cunha leading the line. Sesko, who didn’t play a minute of pre-season, is also on the bench.
