Manchester City returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a straightforward 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The match saw star striker Erling Haaland start on the bench, a decision by manager Pep Guardiola that ultimately paid dividends for the home side.

With Haaland having scored just once in his previous eight appearances and showing signs of fatigue, Guardiola opted to rest the prolific Norwegian forward. The home side took control early, opening the scoring after just six minutes. Former Wolves favourite Matheus Nunes found space on the right flank and delivered a curling cross that Marmoush neatly tucked away. City continued to press, with Semenyo racing onto a long ball from debutant Marc Guehi – who joined from Crystal Palace – only to shoot straight at Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Semenyo eventually doubled City's advantage on the stroke of half-time, controlling a precise pass from Bernardo Silva before burying a shot into the bottom corner. This marked the winger's third goal in just four appearances since his £62.5 million move from Bournemouth.
Controversial Moments and Missed Opportunities
The match was not without controversy, as referee Farai Hallam – overseeing his first top-flight game – was called upon to make a significant decision. After a VAR check, Hallam reviewed a potential handball incident involving Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera, who had the ball flicked against his arm by Marmoush before the City striker hit the post.
Despite Guardiola's apparent displeasure, the referee deemed Mosquera's arm to be in a natural position and the contact accidental, thus awarding no penalty.
