Filippo Ganna won stage 10 of the Giro d'Italia, an individual time trial, on Tuesday. The Italian completed the flat, 42km route along the Tuscan coast from Viareggio to Massa in 45 minutes and 53 seconds, securing his eighth Giro stage victory, seven of which have been time trials.
Ganna's Netcompany-Ineos teammate Thymen Arensman finished second, one minute and 54 seconds behind, while Frenchman Rémi Cavagna (Groupama-FDJ United) took third, five seconds further back. Pre-race favourite Jonas Vingegaard (Visma–Lease a Bike) placed 13th, three minutes down on Ganna.
Portugal's Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain-Victorious) retained the pink jersey despite losing time. He started the day with a two-minute and 24-second lead over Vingegaard and finished with a 27-second overall advantage. Eulálio had expected a poor performance, calling the time trial 'the worst possible type of stage for a lightweight climber like me,' but he found extra strength to limit his losses.
Thymen Arensman moved up to third overall, one minute and 30 seconds behind Vingegaard, while Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) dropped from 35 seconds behind the Dane to almost two minutes adrift. Stage 11 on Wednesday is a 195km ride from Porcari to Chiavari, featuring several hills near the finish but no categorised climbs.
