A footballer who died after an alleged hit-and-run in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, was expecting a baby girl with his partner, it has emerged. Tyler Fairman, 26, was on an end-of-season night out with teammates from Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC when a red Vauxhall Astra mounted a kerb and struck a group of five people in the Market Place on May 9.
Mr Fairman sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead on Tuesday evening (May 12). His partner, Laraya, who works as an NHS healthcare worker and runs her own beauty business, is in the final stages of pregnancy. The couple already have a young son.
A fundraiser launched to support the family has raised over £11,000 as of Thursday morning (May 14). The page describes Mr Fairman as 'not only a devoted partner, but also a loving father to his beautiful son', adding that he and his partner were expecting a baby girl 'very soon'.
The four other people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries. Woodthorpe Park Rangers confirmed one other team member and their manager were also among the victims.
Duane Anthony, 40, of Marton Road, Bulwell, has been charged with five counts of attempted murder and other driving offences. He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, May 11, and was remanded into custody. He will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 8. Following Mr Fairman's death, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed a murder investigation had been launched.
