Rio Ferdinand believes Marcus Rashford's return to Manchester United will be like a 'new signing' for the club. Rashford has rejoined United after his loan spell with Barcelona ended and has trained at Carrington.
The England international had been expected to join Barcelona permanently, with the La Liga club holding a £26million option to sign him. Barcelona chose not to activate that clause, instead signing Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, so Rashford is back at United this summer.
Ferdinand's verdict on Rashford's return
It remains unclear what the future holds for Rashford, who has not featured in pre-season after an extended break following his time with England at the World Cup. Ferdinand is excited by what he has seen from the 28-year-old since he returned to training.
“Rashford is back at Manchester United at the training ground and guys, he’s like a purring Ferrari, man,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents. “He looks fit, he looks ready. And you know what, there’s a smile on his face and there’s a little spring in his step.”
What next for Rashford at United?
“We don’t know which way this is going to go and how it’s going to pan out by the end of this transfer window. But you know what, I hope he stays, and he will be like a new signing at the football club,” Ferdinand added. “And could this be the motivated Marcus Rashford to come out and prove all the doubters and all the people wrong? And all the naysayers. I hope it is. Let’s watch this space.”
Rashford was not in the United squad for the draw with Leeds United in Dublin on Wednesday night. Saturday's friendly against AC Milan is the final chance for players to get minutes before the Premier League opener against Hull City on August 22.
