Danny Murphy Slams Mohamed Salah's 'Selfish' Liverpool Rant Over Arne Slot
Ex-Liverpool star Murphy tears into Salah over interview

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has launched a scathing attack on Mohamed Salah, accusing the Egyptian forward of making his situation at the club "all about him" following a stunning public outburst.

Salah's Explosive Interview

The controversy erupted on Saturday, 6th December 2025, after Liverpool's dramatic 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road. In a post-match interview, Salah revealed deep frustrations with manager Arne Slot and hinted at a potential exit when the January transfer window opens.

The 33-year-old star, who was an unused substitute for the full ninety minutes, claimed it was the third such occurrence this season and a first in his illustrious career. "I am very disappointed," Salah stated. "I have done so much for this club over years... It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus."

He further suggested promises made to him in the summer had been broken and expressed confusion over his treatment, comparing his situation favourably to other elite Premier League scorers like Harry Kane.

Murphy's Blunt Verdict

Reacting on BBC's Match of the Day alongside pundits Kelly Cates and Dion Dublin, ex-Reds star Murphy did not hold back in his criticism of Salah's approach.

"By doing what he's done, he's causing the manager and the team a problem and he's making it all about him. You just can't do it," Murphy asserted.

He acknowledged Salah's right to feel angry or frustrated but insisted such matters should be handled privately. "You have to keep it in the four walls of the club," Murphy advised. "Knock on the manager's door, go and speak to the CEO... Do whatever you've got to do. Express your frustration [there]."

Transfer Speculation Intensifies

Salah's comments have thrown his Anfield future into serious doubt with the winter transfer market looming. When questioned about renewed interest from the lucrative Saudi Pro League, where clubs have previously tried to sign him, Salah gave an evasive response.

"Is there interest from Saudi Arabia? I don’t want to answer that question because the club will take me in a different direction," he said, adding poignantly, "I love the fans so much and love the club, I don't know what is next."

This public airing of grievances marks a significant breakdown in relations between player and manager. Salah confirmed he had a meeting with Slot the day before the Leeds game where his feelings were made clear, but he received no satisfactory explanation for his benching.

The coming weeks will be critical in determining whether this rift can be healed or if January 2026 will see the departure of one of Liverpool's modern greats.
