Under-fire Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez has posted a cryptic update amid rising criticism over his form this season. The 25-year-old, who has gone from rave reviews to stinging criticism under Derek McInnes, shared an Instagram post with the caption 'do it for you' shortly after his shaky night against Jablonec.
Mixed form and transfer interest
Fernandez had earned admiring glances from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, although Record Sport understands there has been no offer from the German giants despite latest reports of a £20million bid. However, his inconsistent displays have made him a prime candidate to drop out of the team when Ben Godfrey returns.
Rival's blunt assessment
Jablonec striker Lamin Jawo claims playing against the Rangers defender was 'not that difficult' and is looking forward to another physical tussle with Fernandez after their 1-0 defeat at Ibrox.
He said: "I know Fernandez is a strong and good player who has quality. But I have played against the strongest defenders in the Czech Republic, so this was not that big of a difference for me. I think it was 50/50 with him. It was not that difficult and maybe I won more aerial duels than him."
Jawo added: "I can say that we are a little disappointed because we expected to get at least a draw. But I think we played a good game, we were very organised. We knew that Rangers are not just any team. We played a good game in Glasgow and we believe that we can do it at home. We feel that we still have a chance. I know that if I play well, keep the ball and help the team, we can play more attacking football. For me, the most important thing now is the team performance."
He concluded: "Absolutely. I believe we can do it at home. We have everything to play for. We are strong at home. We know that Rangers are a very good side, but we are also stronger at home. We don't like losing to any team. So we were all disappointed in the dressing room. But the coach spoke to us and said we played a good game. We have to keep our heads up and fix it at home. Next week will be important for us and we'll just focus on the rematch with Rangers."
