Chelsea Football Club has entered discussions with former midfielder Xabi Alonso regarding the club's vacant managerial position, according to sources. The 42-year-old Spaniard, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, is considered a top candidate to replace the recently departed manager.
Alonso enjoyed a distinguished playing career, representing Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, and winning the UEFA Champions League with both Liverpool and Real Madrid. He also played a pivotal role in Spain's dominance, winning Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012.
As a manager, Alonso has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen, leading the club to a strong Bundesliga campaign. His tactical acumen and experience under top coaches like Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti are seen as assets for a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea's hierarchy is reportedly keen on appointing a manager with a clear philosophy and the ability to develop young talent, qualities Alonso has demonstrated in Germany. The talks are believed to be in early stages, with no agreement reached yet.
