Celtic fans have voiced their frustration over the club's lack of transfer activity, with the Champions League playoff against LASK looming. Despite the arrivals of Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh, supporters are desperate for more new faces.
Fan fury at board's approach
James McShane from New Hampshire slammed the Parkhead decision-makers, saying: "The thing that frustrates me the most about the Celtic board is their high level of incompetence! If they worked for another corporation they would have been fired a long time ago."
He added: "Every day I look to the Daily Record to see if Celtic actually signed anybody…but the mantra from the board and O’Neill is 'we’re keeping tabs on some players' Do these people realise that not only has the season started but the window closes in less than a month and the biggest game of the season (Champions League qualifying) is just around the corner….and they’re 'KEEPING TABS ON PEOPLE!'"
McShane concluded: "It seems very simple: find a player or players that fit the profile and go and get them! They won’t wait around forever! The penny pinching with these guys is at an astounding level…. no wonder Brendan left."
Rangers rivalry and transfer bids
Scott Gowers from Edinburgh commented on the ongoing tussle with Rangers for Fares Ghedjemis' signature: "Season after season the Celtic board infuriate fans by not spending but this transfer window may leave Celtic fans seething, like never before."
He noted: "Both Rangers and Celtic bid for the same player but Celtic's bid £2m lower than Rangers will no doubt ensure more protests outside the doors at Parkhead, especially if they fail to reach the Champions League again."
Mixed reactions to new signings
Alan Flett highlighted the changing perceptions: "We can always rely on Celtic fans for a good laugh! Back in May, [Martin] O'Neill was a hero having been awarded the title on the final day, after the league decider was abandoned. Fast forward a few weeks and he's now clueless after his team scraped a win v Dundee. Last week, the lad [Kasper] Hogh was the new Erling Haaland, but after a dismal debut show, he's now a dud. Priceless!"
Stephen Mulhern defended Celtic's record signing after his debut against Dundee: "I was shocked and stunned by some of the Celtic fans' reaction to Kasper Hogh's disappointing debut for Celtic."
He added: "This is a player of genuine Champions League pedigree, and goodness knows what the comments will be if he draws a blank at Rugby Park on Sunday. No doubt they will demand he’s sent out on loan! Once he develops an understanding with back to best Kieran Tierney a barrel load of goals is on the cards."
Paul Price from Glasgow offered a balanced view: "What is it with folk that post nonsensical opinions regarding a certain clubs signings? Irrespective of what club they have signed for, they have moved from their homeland or where they were comfortable and settled. I am sure when they get used to their new surroundings we will see the best of them on the playing field. Good luck to all who have came to play in the Scottish league."
Market difficulties and comparisons
Parkhead legend John Collins attempted to explain Celtic's difficulties in the market, but John Scott from Grassmoor isn't convinced. He said: "I find it hard to understand John Collins' belief that agents use Celtic's interest to get their players more lucrative moves to English clubs. If that is the case why do Celtic find players that ultimately leave them for such huge fees? Virgil Van Dijk being a good example."
Scott added: "EPL clubs shop in Waitrose. Celtic shop in M&S, Rangers in Tesco and Hibs in Aldi. It's simple economics. Celtic's problem is shopping in M&S hoping for Aldi prices. Sometimes they find bargains in the middle aisle hence the huge bank balance."
Hearts red card appeal rejected
Hearts' appeal of Stuart Findlay's red card in the 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen was thrown out by the SFA. Kevin Lord from Drylaw said: "While I can see the grievances Hearts fans have over the weekend decisions, how many have honestly looked at them and thought 'I'd want them at our end'? None that I've spoken to can disagree."
Unhappy Rab from Dumfries clapped back at Hampden chiefs: "Good to see that the SFA have doubled down on the red card issued to Stuart Findlay and confirmed what all fans already knew: Hearts are refereed to a different standard and to different rules from other teams. Will this vendetta ever end?"
