Bruno Fernandes was also honoured, receiving a framed shirt after equalling the single-season Premier League assist record. Tyrell Malacia, who has struggled with knee injuries, was given a framed shirt as well, and his family posed for a photo by the tunnel. Malacia spent extra time on the pitch, appreciating the gesture.
The lap of honour ended in front of the Stretford End, with heartwarming scenes as players and their families mingled. Casemiro's son playfully tackled Bruno Fernandes' child during a kickabout, and Fernandes set his son up for a goal. Casemiro's mother carefully folded a home-crafted 'thank you' message to fans, taking it home as a keepsake.
Casemiro was scheduled to speak at a post-match press conference but was too emotional to do so, according to a club staff member. He and his wife held hands as they left the pitch, with Casemiro blowing kisses and waving goodbye to the fans.
Michael Carrick saluted the Stretford End before heading down the tunnel. Steve Holland, a lifelong United fan, also applauded the crowd. Kobbie Mainoo played with his niece on the pitch as fans chanted his name, and he responded with a fist pump and applause.
